A new beautifully crafted bronze plaque has arrived in Piries Place to sit alongside the statue of Mr William Pirie. The long-awaited plaque provides details of the impressive sculpture work of Lorne McKean and the history of local familiar figure William Pirie. The plaque is positioned in front of the statue, displayed proudly within the heart of Piries Place. A new bronze step has also been attached to the back of the carriage, designed as per the original, after it was damaged in building works at Piries Place. The step is an important detail which demonstrates the traditional design to safely dismount the cart.
Passers-by and local businesses have been visiting the restoration project, excited to see the finishing touches put in place. The statue of Mr Pirie and his donkey has stood proudly at the heart of Piries Place since 1993. Following the recent makeover, Piries Place can now shine a light on the beautiful, bronze sculpture and plaque which will remain a focal point for all to enjoy.
